Beat the Heat by Managing Plant Heat Stress
Higher temperatures and lower precipitation have been affecting much of the United States this season. The U.S. Drought monitor reports that at the end of May, 46.3% of the United States was under drought conditions.* In addition, the average United States temperature during May was 61.9°F.
High temperatures and low precipitation can result in the disturbance of photosynthesis and respiration, mineral nutrition uptake, shoot growth and pollen development. Applications of bioscience products can play an important role as viable options to mitigate these stresses and improve plant health.
To mitigate abiotic plant stressors, Helena recommends Orbix®. This high-analysis, nutrient solution of 8-5-3 NPK contains the select plant extracts of RenovA® plus ENC® Formulation Technology. As a product that provides critical crop nutrition, Orbix activates the plant’s natural defenses, in turn creating stronger, healthier plants. With ENC Formulation Technology, Orbix improves nutrient uptake to help correct plant nutrient deficiencies.
While Orbix provides defense mechanisms for season stressors, Utilize® provides an improvement in plant physiological processes, keeping plants running at peak efficiency during the growing season. Utilize is a 5-0-0 NPK solution, formulated with Goëmar®, to boost plant performance by increasing chlorophyll concentrations and photosynthesis in the plant. The increase in chlorophyll enhances light gathering opportunity and subsequently improves photosynthetic efficiency. This influx of energy can also increase root growth, creating more opportunity for nutrient and water uptake.
Don’t let the implications of high temperatures and low precipitation hinder your plants. Use Orbix and Utilize together to give plants the early boost in defense mechanisms and physiological processes they need to survive and thrive during seasonal stressors. Helena can recommend a custom program to help maximize your plants’ capabilities of tolerating and overcoming peak months of stress.
